Swamp Haven Rescue

Elkton, Florida

Cause Description:
We are transplants from the Pacific Northwest and when we learned how many dogs, specifically hounds and pit bulls, lose their lives in shelters each month here in the south were heartbroken. We felt we needed to do something to help, so we started Swamp Haven Rescue. Our mission is to save death row dogs from county shelters here in northeastern Florida. These may be dogs given up by their owners, abandoned by hunters, or found as strays who are scared and confused, they may even been deemed "unadoptable" by shelter staff. These dogs are our passion, and we do everything in our power to save as many as we possibly can. We work closely with our vet, Dr. Jack Schmidt, owner of St. Augustine Animal Clinic, as well as our dog trainer, Silke Royer, owner of Pet Camp. They are both graciously to allow us to board our dogs while we are search for fosters. The staff at the clinic and at camp have been invaluable, fostering dogs (and a few cats), helping rehabilitate dogs, helping with fundraisers, and spreading the word about Swamp Haven. With the help of Dr. Jack and Silke our dogs are fully vaccinated, spayed/neutered, microchipped, and at Pet Camp have experienced playing in a pack environment. Playing in a pack helps dogs socialize and learn how to interact with other dogs, it also helps stressed and scared dogs come out of their shell. We can't do what we do without your support, thank you so much for visiting our page. We hope you'll become part of the Swamp Haven family and help us to give death row dogs the chance to live.
